Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy and Assessment
Do you take insurance?
The only forms of insurance that I currently accept are Aetna, Custom Design Benefits, and Lyra Health. Unfortunately, I am no longer taking any other form of insurance.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is a type of receipt that documents the services you receive in a manner that can be used to facilitate out-of-network insurance claims. Superbills include medical billing codes and diagnoses, just like what is included in standard insurance claim submissions. Most insurance plans involve separate annual deductibles for in-network and out-of-network services. Once your out-of-network deductible is met, you are likely eligible for reimbursement. To know for certain, it is recommended that you contact your insurer directly and confirm (see the customer service phone number on your insurance card).
How long does therapy in usually take?
Although the length of therapy in Cincinnati, OH of course depends on the individual and their particular needs, a full course of evidence-based treatment for most trauma, mood, anxiety, and sleep disorders is between 8-12 sessions. Often, my clients begin to experience significant improvements in less time.
Why don’t you accept more forms of insurance?
The truth is that there are a number of drawbacks to working with insurance companies. Many companies won't cover services for particular issues, or they may want providers to offer services in a format that is less than ideal for clients. Additionally, many insurance companies are complicated to deal with (think rejected claims and unresolved claims, convoluted associations with other companies, etc.), which limits the number of time therapists have for actually seeing clients! By sticking primarily to private pay, I am able to fit in more clients (and keep more of my hair from turning gray!).
The other thing I’ll say is that therapy is without a doubt an investment in the self. Knowing that therapy isn’t cheap often motivates clients to come optimally prepared for each session and get the absolute most that they can from the experience!
Do you work with children or adolescents?
I work with individuals ages 16 and older. For clients younger than 18, parental consent is required.
