Online ADHD & Autism Evaluations for Virginia Adults
Virtual ADHD and Autism Evaluations for Virginia Residents
Looking for an online ADHD evaluation, online autism (ASD) assessment, or comprehensive psychological evaluation in Virginia? I can help. I'm Dr. Ben Dickstein, PhD, a clinical psychologist (Ohio License #7277) authorized by the PSYPACT Commission (APIT #13712) to provide telepsychology services to Virginia residents. I specialize in adult evaluations, and through PSYPACT I can see clients anywhere in Virginia — from Northern Virginia (Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William) through Richmond and the Tidewater region (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Newport News, Hampton, Chesapeake), out to Roanoke, Lynchburg, Charlottesville, and the rural southwest.
Why a Virtual Evaluation from Virginia?
Virginia has three distinct geographic and demographic clusters when it comes to mental health access. Northern Virginia is dense with federal employees, contractors, and tech professionals — and even though the metro is well-populated, waitlists for adult ADHD and autism evaluations at established centers commonly run four to eight months. The Hampton Roads region (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, the military communities) has its own provider base but similar wait pressure. And the rest of Virginia — the I-64 and I-81 corridors, the Shenandoah Valley, Southwest Virginia, the Eastern Shore — has noticeably thinner specialist coverage, sometimes requiring a multi-hour drive to find a clinician trained in current best-practice adult evaluation. An online evaluation eliminates the geographic and waitlist constraints. You complete the assessment from home on a schedule that works for you.
Virginia-Specific Things to Know
Telehealth law. Virginia has been a national leader on telehealth, with the original Virginia Telemedicine Act (Code § 38.2-3418.16) dating back to 2010 and substantial expansions since. Virginia was also one of the first states to enact PSYPACT-enabling legislation in 2019, making PSYPACT participation effective for Virginia residents the same year. PSYPACT participation lets me, an Ohio-licensed psychologist with the Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT #13712), see Virginia residents legally and ethically via secure telehealth video.

> Accommodations. My reports are written to meet standard ADA documentation requirements — diagnostic codes, functional impact statements, and accommodation-specific recommendations. Major Virginia employers (Capital One, Hilton, Booz Allen Hamilton, Northrop Grumman, Freddie Mac, Dollar Tree, Mars, the federal government and DoD agencies headquartered in Northern Virginia, and similar) routinely review this kind of documentation from licensed psychologists when clients request workplace accommodations. The Virginia federal workforce in particular has well-established accommodation pathways through agency-level reasonable accommodation coordinators.
Scheduling Across Time Zones
All of Virginia observes Eastern Time — the same time zone as my Cincinnati office. My weekday morning, lunchtime, and late-afternoon slots work well for Virginia working-hour schedules.
What I Offer
Online ADHD Assessment. A thorough evaluation following current best-practice guidelines for diagnosing attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. This includes a detailed clinical interview, standardized rating scales, collateral reports from people who know you well, and screening for conditions that commonly co-occur with or mimic ADHD. You'll receive a detailed written report with your results, diagnostic conclusions, and individualized treatment recommendations.
Online ASD Assessment. A comprehensive autism spectrum disorder evaluation that includes a developmental and personal history, validated ASD-specific measures, collateral information, and assessment of co-occurring concerns. Online ASD testing follows the same clinical standards as an in-person evaluation. Many adults have suspected for years that they might be on the spectrum but haven't known where to turn. If that's you, I'd encourage you to reach out.
Comprehensive Telehealth Evaluation. For situations where the diagnostic picture is complex or unclear. This includes everything in the ADHD and ASD evaluations plus an objective personality measure that provides detailed information about a wider array of mental health symptoms, personality features, and personal strengths. If you or your provider want a complete picture, this is the way to go.
Combined Evaluations. I also offer combined ADHD and ASD evaluations, as well as comprehensive assessments that include ADHD and/or ASD testing. These are helpful when more than one condition may be in play.
Current Pricing. Pricing for these assessments is provided on the following page of my website.
How It Works
Before the evaluation, you'll receive intake paperwork and rating scales to complete ahead of time. People who know you well (a partner, parent, or close friend) will be sent their own forms.
During the evaluation, we'll meet via secure video for a detailed clinical interview. Depending on the type of assessment, this typically takes one to two sessions.
After the evaluation, you'll receive a detailed written report with your results, diagnosis (when warranted), and specific treatment recommendations. Letters of support for accommodations are provided as needed. I'm also happy to coordinate with your providers in Virginia to ensure continuity of care.
For Virginia Providers Considering a Referral
If you're a therapist, psychiatrist, or physician in Virginia and you have a client or patient who needs an ADHD evaluation, autism assessment, or comprehensive diagnostic workup, I welcome referrals. My reports are detailed (typically 12+ pages for ADHD evaluations), include specific and actionable treatment recommendations, and are designed to be useful to the providers who will continue working with the individual. I'm also available for consultation before or after an evaluation.
